Rohit Sharma is an Indian cricketer. He is primarily known for his work in Indian International Cricket team. Born on 30 April 1987, he completed his schooling from Swami Vivekanand International School and Our Lady of Vailankanni High School in Mumbai. Right after starting his cricket career at the age of 20, he earned praise for his calm and matured performances on the ground. Due to his hard hitting ability, the right handed batsman is known as “The Hitman”. He is also the captain of IPL team Mumbai Indians. The cricket star generally opens the innings for team India but has batted in middle order as well. He has earned many awards by the Government of India for his performance.

  • He was born in Nagpur but his family moved to Dombivali in Mumbai’s suburbs when he was 2 years old.
  • His family’s financial condition was not really good and so he was sent to his Grandparents house where he started playing Galli Cricket.
  • He joined a local cricket club when he was in class 6th at the time of his summer vacations as an off-spin bowler as there were already too many batsmen available.

He is married to sports event manager Ritika Sajdeh. They met as professionals and Ritika used to take care of rohit’s cricket engagements as his manager. Soon they become good friends then best friends and took their relationship to another level. After dating for almost 6 years, Rohit proposed Ritika at the place that holds utmost importance in his life. He went on to his knees and proposed her for marriage at Borivali Sports Club in Mumbai. She accepted the proposal and the couple got hitched on 13 December 2015. They became proud parents of baby daughter Samaira in 2018.

Early life
  • Being born in middle class family, he lived at his grandparent’s house owing to low income of his father.
  • He started his cricket journey at the age of 12 by joining a cricket camp with his uncle’s money.
Background
  • He came to everyone’s notice during ICC U19 World Cup in 2006 where he has scored 205 runs in tournament with the average of 41. He even hit 78 against team Sri Lanka in group stage match and became the Man of the Match.
  • In 2006, he impressed everyone while playing for West Zone at his List A debut match against Central Zone. On that tournament, he made 142 unbeaten runs against North Zone.
  • In the year 2006-07, he made his Ranji Trophy debut for Mumbai. He made huge score of 205 against Gujarat which the opposition failed to make in even 2 innings. In the finals against Bengal, he made 57 runs in the innings which made his side to win.
Debut
  • In 2007, he made his ODI debut against team Ireland. Though his official debut was at Belfast but he did not get to bat there. He was then retained in the team for next game against South Africa and made only 8 runs.
  • Rohit made his T20 debut against team England in ICC World Cup T20 in 2007 but still didn’t get to bat. But luckily he was included in the team at the last minute after cricketer Yuvraj Singh got injured. He used the opportunity well and made 50 not out becoming Man of The Match.
  • Then in 2013, he made his Test debut against team West Indies. He made 177 runs and followed it with unbeaten 111 runs in the next match at Mumbai.

  • After his debut at International cricket, his first success was during the first final of Commonwealth Bank series 2008 against Australia where he made 66 runs. He made 123 runs partnership with Sachin Tendulkar and win the match for team India.

  • In 2013, he decided to open the innings against team England. At that time, he had a poor batting average and did not have a fixed spot in the team. In that match, he made match winning 83 runs and continued to open the innings during the entire ICC Champions Trophy. He then made 65 and 52 against team South Africa and West Indies respectively.
  • Later, his capabilities came in Jaipur ODI against team Australia in 2013 where he made 141* and lead India to win while chasing for the target of 360 runs.
  • In 2014, he made history after scoring 264 runs against Sri Lanka in ODI series. He hit 33 fours during the match which was set as a record that time.
  • In 2015, he made 106 runs in T20 against team South Africa and became the second Indian to hit century in all the formats.
  • At Mohali on 13 December 2017, he scored his career’s third double hundred after scoring 208 against Sri Lanka.

  • He had very inconsistent start at his International career. Few of the critics said about him that he played lots of shots to the same delivery and often get out playing the wrong shot.
  • He lost out on a place in ICC Cricket World Cup Squad in 2011 due to his low average of 22.
