Umesh Yadav is an Indian International cricketer. He is primarily known as a right-arm fast bowler who has played for India at National and International level. Born on 25 October 1987, he did his schooling from Government Higher Secondary School in Walani. After impressing everyone with a string of his amazing performances in the domestic circuit, he managed to get into the Indian team squad for 2010 World T20 replacing injured Praveen Kumar. However, he was benched in the whole tournament and didn’t get to play. Later in 2011, he rose to fame after he took his first five-wicket haul in Test Cricket with figures of 5/92 and showed everyone his caliber.

- He comes from a very humble family background. His father was a coalmine worker who never wanted any of his sons to work in coalmine.
- He is one of those cricketers who didn’t took studies very seriously and after completing his higher secondary schooling, he gave up his studies because he had no interest in studying any further.
- After quitting his studies, his first preference was to get selected in army and serve for India but he was rejected because destiny had other plans for him.
- After he got rejection in Army, he tried his luck at becoming a police officer but unfortunately he was not selected only because of two points.
- Like many regular boys, Umesh as well used to play cricket with tennis ball. He was a good fast bowler and has once became the Man of the Series award along with winning cash price of Rs.10,000.
- He even tried to get selected in college tournaments owing to his good performance but didn’t get the chance because he never represented any cricket club.
- After facing rejection in army, college and police, he then signed up for Vidarbha Gymkhana. As he come from a poor-middle class family, he used to play with shoes having studs on their soles.
- Soon his name became famous in Vidarbha region after he took 3 wickets for 37 runs in 10 overs. Owing to his good performance in domestic circuit, he was selected in India’s squad for 2010 World T20 in place of Praveen Kumar.
- In no time, he was selected by VCA for semi-finals of inter-district 3 day tournament in Amravati. Then captain of Vidarbha “Pritam Gandhi” helped Yadav to play for Air India in T20 tournament in Mumbai.
- On 2008-09 Ranji Trophy, he made his first class debut for Vidarbha. On that season, he ended the season for taking 20 wickets with best figures of 6/105.
- Umesh continued giving amazing performances in domestic cricket and later was selected in IPL season 2010 for team Delhi Daredevils. His journey since then have transformed completely. He got to play 7 matches and took 6 wickets as well.
- In November 2011, he made his International Test debut against team West Indies and became the first player of Vidarbha to do so. He ended the series by picking up 9 wickets.
- During the first One-Day International (ODI) from the five-match series between India and West Indies, he showed his batting skills as well. He was born in Nagpur, Maharashtra, India into a middle class Hindu family. His father name is Tilak Yadav who used to work in coalmine as a worker and mother name is Kishori Devi. She died in 2011 due to prolonged illness of diabetes. He has two brothers and 1 sister. Coming from a financially unstable family, he worked very hard in his career and gave his family all the luxury they couldn’t afford. He was selected in 2010 World T20 India’s squad after performing amazingly well in the domestic circuit but didn’t get to play any match. Later, he was called in the team that played an ODI series in Zimbabwe against host and Sri Lanka. In that series, he played 3 matches and took only 1 wicket. Then in 2011, he made his Test debut against West Indies opening the bowling in first innings but failed to take any wicket. Though, in the second innings he played amazing by picking up 2 wickets helping India to a five-wicket victory. His performance made India win that series and led him being most successful bowlers of India in the series.
